“Every river has a story. The Berounka, Sázava, and Dyje don’t just flow through the landscape — they connect us to nature in ways that matter. My job is helping people discover those connections safely and authentically.”

About Martin

14 Years in Czech Waterways

From academic research to hands-on outdoor leadership

Martin discovered his passion for Czech waterways while studying Environmental Science at Charles University in Prague, initially conducting research on river ecosystems and watershed management. Over the past 14 years, he’s evolved from academic work into practical outdoor leadership, becoming a certified canoe guide and wilderness navigation instructor.

His transition to content creation at Veltriant three years ago was a natural progression—he wanted to share his accumulated knowledge about specific swimming holes, optimal canoe seasons, picnic locations, and valley walking routes with a broader audience. What drives Martin is the intersection of accessibility and authenticity. He believes everyone should know where to experience these natural spaces safely and responsibly.

His approach combines hands-on field experience—he regularly revisits locations to verify conditions and seasonal changes—with meticulous research into local ecology, history, and cultural significance. Martin has trained multiple guides and contributes to regional outdoor recreation committees, ensuring the information he publishes remains current and promotes sustainable leisure practices across Czech waterways.

Martin’s Approach

Research Meets Real Experience

What sets Martin’s work apart is the combination of rigorous field verification and academic background. He doesn’t just write about routes—he revisits locations regularly to check water conditions, trail conditions, and seasonal changes. This hands-on approach means the information stays current and accurate.

His Environmental Science degree from Charles University provides the technical foundation for understanding ecology and watershed dynamics. But it’s the 14 years spent actually paddling, hiking, and exploring these spaces that brings depth to his writing. He knows where the eddies are, where the best views happen at sunset, and which spots work best for different skill levels.

Martin’s also serious about safety. He’s trained guides, contributed to recreation safety standards, and understands the real risks people face. That’s why his guides include practical safety information—not just the beautiful parts, but the details that keep people safe.
